BANNER PRINTING

[prices]

Print posters, photos, banners and large advertisements on Zap’s Kodak Encad banner printer. Our printer is capable of printing banners up to five feet in width and any length. Before your banner is printed we will print a 11x17 print of your file for you to proof. Allow two working days from this time for your banner to be printed. If you need the banner sooner then 48 hours a 25% rush charge will apply.

We can print from many different formats but prefer TIFF, JPEG, PDF or PowerPoint. Please phone Zap (721.8805) or email (dezine@uvss.uvic.ca) for information on other files before you design your banner.

Here are a few tips:

• PDF : set your PDF writer for a large file size and check the size of the PDF page once you have created the banner PDF. The PDF you send us has to be sized to the finished banner size because we cannot enlarge or reduce your PDF on the banner printer.

• PPT: Do not use templates for designing your banner in PowerPoint. Usually templates do not print correctly. Include any odd fonts in a separate folder. Insert photos at a high resolution.

• Illustrator files should be saved as EPS, the file flattened and fonts changed to outlines.

• PhotoShop files should be flattened and saved as a TIFF or JPEG. Create your banner at a minimum resolution of 150.

Use our FTP site for large file transfers. Send us an email or phone (721.8805) letting us know your file is on the FTP site and ready for proofing.

What is the best program for creating banners?
Power Point and other programs of this type we never designed for the printing of color graphics. For best color results color graphics should be created in CMYK with PhotoShop or Illustrator. CMYK refers to the four colors used in digital full color printing. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) are used in monitors, cameras, scanners, overhead transparencies and graphics for web sites.

The majority of files we print are from Power Point because everyone has the program and is familiar with its use. Remember that the colors, especially mauves and greens, reproduce with the least accuracy in this program. This is not a problem with our equipment but is an industry wide issue.

How accurately will my printed graphics match what I see on my monitor?
The technology used for offset printing is a CMYK printing process, so therefore when printed, RGB monitor colors are simulated using Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black inks. Because of wide differences in monitors and how they display color, many printed (CMYK) colors do not accurately match the (RGB) colors you see on screen. Bottom line: although close, the final graphics we produce for you are likely to include colors that do not "match" the colors you see on your monitor.
